Look out for others
Helping a neighbour, checking in on someone or offering a seat when it is needed.
A simple gesture can change someone's day. Help us celebrate omoiyari across Australia by sharing a photograph and the story behind it.
Share your story →It might be a neighbour helping someone with their groceries, a colleague supporting a teammate, a young person welcoming someone new, or volunteers caring for a shared space. Omoiyari is often found in ordinary moments.
Helping a neighbour, checking in on someone or offering a seat when it is needed.
A patient, respectful exchange with a frontline worker, or quiet support for a person having a difficult day.
Volunteers restoring a local reserve, neighbours sharing resources or people making a public space welcoming.
Photographs are welcome, but not essential. A short story can be just as powerful. Please prioritise the kindness of the moment over capturing an image.
These photographs offer different ways to reflect on compassion, connection and consideration. They are illustrations of the values we celebrate, not verified accounts of particular acts of kindness.

Images supplied for this website. Please ensure any required photographer permissions and consent from identifiable people are in place before public publication.
We hope to feature selected photographs and stories from across Australia here, with permission from the people involved. Our aim is to inspire more thoughtful acts—not to rank, judge or reward kindness.
Respect and consent come first. You can submit a story without a photo, and you can ask to be credited by first name only or remain anonymous. If a published story concerns you and you would like it reviewed or removed, please email hello@omoiyarifoundation.com.au.
